The High Fens form the highest plateau in Belgium. At more than 600 metres above sea level you find a landscape that exists nowhere else in the country: vast peat bogs of sphagnum moss, heather and dwarf shrubs, crossed by wooden boardwalks. The nature reserve is one of the oldest in Belgium and draws tens of thousands of walkers every year.
The Signal de Botrange reaches 694 metres, the highest point in Belgium. But the real experience comes from walking across the peatlands. In fog the atmosphere turns mysterious, in winter the snow can linger into March, and in spring the cranberries flower. The region borders the East Cantons and the town of Spa, known for its thermal springs.
Holiday homes around the High Fens are ideal for anyone who loves wide open nature and quiet. You find wooden chalets with views over the hills, renovated Ardennes farmhouses and modern houses with every comfort. Winter brings snowshoe walkers and cross-country skiers, summer brings ramblers and nature photographers.
