Houffalize is a picturesque little town in the province of Luxembourg, set along the Ourthe in the heart of the Ardennes. The town, hit hard during the Battle of the Ardennes in 1944 and 1945, has recovered with grace. On the main square a Panther tank still stands, a silent witness to those events. Today Houffalize is a lively village with good restaurants, a weekly market and a welcoming Ardennes atmosphere.

Mountain bikers know Houffalize as one of the best destinations in Wallonia. An international mountain bike and cyclo-cross championship is held here every year, and the network of marked trails around the town draws riders of all levels. Walkers find routes along the Ourthe, through the forests and over the ridges. The Nisramont reservoir, a dam lake with calm water, is ideal for a morning walk. Families can enjoy Houtopia, a nature discovery centre.

Holiday homes around Houffalize are typically Ardennes in style: renovated farmhouses, wooden chalets and spacious holiday houses for large groups. The region is more affordable than Durbuy or La Roche-en-Ardenne, while offering comparable nature and atmosphere.
