Florenville is a town with real character in the Gaume, the southernmost and sunniest region of Belgium, in the province of Luxembourg. The region is nicknamed the 'south of Belgium' for its mild climate and rolling landscape with an almost Mediterranean feel. Florenville itself sits on a hill overlooking the Semois valley: from the church terrace, the view over the river's meanders is one of the finest in the country.

A few kilometres from Florenville are two gems not to be missed. The artists' village of Chassepierre, on the banks of the Semois, hosts an international street theatre festival every August that draws thousands of spectators. Orval Abbey, twenty kilometres away, is one of the few Trappist abbeys still active in the world, famous for the beer and cheese sold at the abbey shop.

The holiday homes around Florenville are above all rural: renovated farmsteads with large gardens, holiday houses along the Semois and comfortable gîtes in the surrounding villages. The Gaume has a personality of its own: warmer, drier and quieter than the central Ardennes.
