Etsrike

"Etsrike" Ertsenrijk is a hamlet of Halen, located south of the village centre in the valley of the Gete. In the past, the name of the hamlet was written as Echericke, Escherike or Etsrike. The first part of the name could then come from "etching", which means pasture or hayland. The second part “rike” would mean fence. Due to its location next to the Gete, the area would have been suitable for meadows.

In the thirteenth century, the late court "Hof van Langdorp or van Vlierbeek" was created here (lower court), bound to a glory (territory of a landlord). The area grew into an elongated wasteland around which farms and houses were built.
