What to expect from a home with sauna?
Most homes with a sauna in the Ardennes have the cabin in a separate room, connected to the bathroom or the wellness area. The wood for a Finnish sauna is usually provided by the owner. Towels and a sauna mat are sometimes included, sometimes not. Ask when you book. Some homes also offer an outdoor shower or a small cold plunge as a complement to the sauna.
Tips for your sauna stay in the Ardennes
- Wait at least two hours after a heavy meal before entering the sauna. A full stomach and extreme heat do not mix.
- Drink plenty of water before, during and after the sauna. Dehydration is a common holiday mistake.
- Light the sauna on the day you arrive, so it is up to temperature when you are ready.
- Combine the sauna with an evening walk. Fresh air followed by sauna warmth, nothing better for a deep night's sleep.
