The Easter break is the first real taste of spring each year. Nature wakes up, the days grow longer and a week or two away with the family feels like a well-earned reward after the long winter. A holiday home in Belgium is the perfect base for everything spring has to offer.

From the first blossom in the Flemish fruit region to the first walks along the banks of the Semois, the Easter break in Belgium combines nature, calm and comfort. With a bit of luck, the sun is already strong enough for that first moment on the terrace.
During the Easter break, the Belgian countryside is at its finest. The Ardennes are not yet crowded with tourists, but nature is already in full swing: trees in flower, young leaves on the beeches and rivers full after the winter rains. Walking and cycling are excellent in April.
Haspengouw in April is a story of its own. The fruit trees, apple, pear and cherry, are in full bloom and the countryside looks like a painting. A holiday home in the Belgian fruit region during the Easter break is a special experience that many people have yet to discover.
In April the beeches in the Ardennes put out their first leaves. Along the banks of the Semois and the Ourthe, willows stand white in blossom, and the air smells different from winter, of earth and fresh growth. In the Campine around Kasterlee and Geel, Easter is still quiet: cycle paths through pine forests and heathlands, almost no one about, spring entirely to yourself.
If you set out early, you catch the dawn lying over the mist in the valley, a sight you never get from a hotel room. Holiday homes in the Ardennes in April often still have the warmth of a winter interior while spring waits just outside the door. That is the particular appeal of the Easter week in Belgium.
Between Sint-Truiden and Borgloon, in the heart of the Belgian Hesbaye, apple, pear and cherry trees come into bloom simultaneously in April. The result is a sea of white and pink spreading across the gentle hills. This display lasts only two to three weeks and depends on the weather. Arriving in the right week means seeing something almost without comparison.
The province of Limburg has its own route for this: the Bloesemroute (Blossom Route). It passes orchards, small chapels and viewpoints looking out over the valley. If you are staying in a holiday home in the Hesbaye or southern Limburg, you can walk or cycle the route several times, following whichever section is in peak bloom that day.
An Easter egg hunt in the garden of your holiday home is one of the most popular Easter activities. Many owners hide eggs or small treats on the property without needing to be asked. On top of that, there are day trips close by: Planckendael near Mechelen is one of Belgium's most engaging wildlife parks. Pairi Daiza in Brugelette has large enclosures and tropical glasshouses. Parc Chlorophylle at Dochamps in the Ardennes has forest adventure trails designed specifically for children.
For families with young children, the cycling routes along the Ourthe are particularly well suited: flat along the riverbank, well signposted and with plenty of places to stop for a picnic. Hiring e-bikes means tackling longer stretches with children in a trailer is entirely manageable. Many Ardennes villages have hire stations, and the owner of your holiday home will know the best starting point.
April in Belgium is unpredictable. Temperatures anywhere between 8 and 18 degrees, sun in the morning and rain in the afternoon are not the exception but the rule. Bring waterproof jackets and sturdy shoes even if the forecast looks promising. A holiday home with a covered terrace or a sunroom is a genuine advantage during the Easter week.
The Easter school holidays in Belgium last two weeks, and Durbuy, La Roche-en-Ardenne and Bouillon fill up fast. The most sought-after houses in these villages are sometimes fully booked by January. Good alternatives include the Amblève valley, the area around Maredsous or smaller villages along the Semois that are less well known and where prices are more relaxed.
